GFR Calculator

Estimated glomerular filtration rate using the CKD-EPI 2021 equation.

Glomerular filtration rate reflects how quickly your kidneys filter blood. This tool estimates it from serum creatinine, age and sex.

The equation used is the 2021 version, which has no race coefficient. The earlier version adjusted results for Black patients; that term was removed because race is a social rather than a biological variable and its inclusion delayed care.

Your details

The formulas use different coefficients for each sex.

Formula and method

The CKD-EPI 2021 creatinine equation. The result is normalised to a body surface area of 1.73 m² and staged against the KDIGO categories.

Formula used

CKD-EPI 2021 creatinine equation (race-free)

Assumptions and limits

  • The equation has only been validated on adults and will not compute for anyone under 18.
  • Serum creatinine is affected by muscle mass, diet and some medications. Interpreting the result is a clinician's job.
