Body Surface Area Calculator

Total body surface area, with five standard clinical formulas.

Body surface area is used in medicine to normalise figures such as cardiac output and kidney filtration rate. Five common formulas are computed side by side so you can see how they differ.

Formula and method

Mosteller is the default: it has the simplest form and agrees closely with Du Bois across the normal range.

Formula used

Mosteller (default) plus Du Bois, Haycock, Gehan-George and Boyd

Assumptions and limits

  • These formulas estimate from height and weight; none is a direct measurement.
