BMI Calculator
Weight relative to height squared, with the World Health Organization classification.
Body mass index is the simplest weight screening measure there is: your weight divided by your height squared. That simplicity is both its strength and its limitation.
It was built to compare populations, not to judge an individual. It cannot separate muscle from fat, so it misreads a heavily muscled build.
Fill in your details and press calculate — your result will appear here.
Formula and method
Weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. The classification uses the World Health Organization's adult thresholds.
Formula used
BMI = mass(kg) / height(m)^2
Assumptions and limits
- It applies to adults; children and adolescents need age-and-sex percentile charts instead.
- It ignores fat distribution. Waist circumference tells you more about metabolic risk.
