Body composition & weight

Ideal Weight Calculator

Four classical clinical formulas, shown side by side.

There is no single ideal weight. The four formulas here were built in different decades for different purposes, and they disagree by several kilograms for the same height.

All of them were originally built for drug dosing, not for health or appearance. That is why a healthy weight range based on BMI is usually the more useful measure.

Your details

The formulas use different coefficients for each sex.

Typical range: 100 – 250

The values you enter are calculated in your browser only — nothing is stored or transmitted.

Fill in your details and press calculate — your result will appear here.

Formula and method

Each formula starts from a base weight at five feet and adds a fixed amount per inch above that. The coefficients differ by sex.

Formula used

Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi formulas

Assumptions and limits

  • Below 152 cm these formulas are extrapolated and less reliable.
  • None of them account for body composition, frame size or age.
