Formula and method
Mifflin–St Jeor by default, because it was derived on a modern population and has the best validation record. Harris–Benedict and Katch–McArdle are also available.
Formula used
Mifflin-St Jeor (default), Harris-Benedict revised, or Katch-McArdle
Assumptions and limits
- Katch–McArdle is sex-independent because it works from lean mass directly — but it needs a measured body fat percentage.
- This is a population estimate. Two people of the same height and weight can differ by as much as ten percent.
